Pinkberry

pb.jpg

Those of you fortunate enough to live close to one of these gems are very lucky. Last week I met up with Nhu-Chi to watch a live taping of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. After dinner(I’ll talk about it in the next post) we went to Pinkberry in West Hollywood. Ok… before my introduction to this most marvelous place I totally wasn’t a fan of frozen yogurt. It tasted like soft serve or just ice cream…never like what the name says it should taste like… friggin frozen yogurt. So I’ve finally encountered a place the serves up something that really tastes like frozen yogurt. It was phenomenal and until just right now when I was reviewing the company’s website I was sad at the thought that I might not get to eat it very often since I don’t frequent LA as often as I used to and I thought this place was just an LA thing. For us San Diegans….there’s a location in Temecula. It maybe a little far depending on where you live but you must visit it! The frozen confection was just phenomenal…silky and smooth and with that slight tang characteristic of yogurt. Pinkberry only makes 2 flavors… original and green tea but that’s all they need seriously. You can also choose a variety of toppings to compliment the treat. They also sell shaved ice and smoothies but it was very apparent that they were know for the frozen yogurt judging from the customers that were hoarding such large servings. Nhu-Chi and I decided to share a medium 3 topping original frozen yogurt($4.95) and went with mangoes, strawberries and blueberries. I haven’t felt so satisfied with a frozen treat since I was back in Rome at Giollitti’s and that says a lot. The dessert was sinfully delicious and it was fat free as well so no worries about the waistline. Now that I’ve found out its in Temecula I’ll certainly be frequenting this joint more often.

  1. Hey Liz,

I have heard about this place. When Kirk and I were in LA we had dinner with several LA bloggers including Colleen who publishes Colleen Cuisine. She bills herself as a “Pinkberry Slut”, and was even mentioned in the LA Times. Check out her posts on Pinkberry, they are hilarious. There is a link to her on Kirk’s Site. I wish I had tried some while I was up there in December, it sure sounds good.

  2. Haha…you can still try it in Temecula!

  3. hmm.. i was at Diamond Plaza in Rowland Heights this weekend and i saw a frozen yogurt place called “kiwiberry”. looks like pinkberry or “___”-berry started first may have admirers.

  4. Hey charsiubao,

Yea I’ve heard there’s some fierce competition with kiwiberry but I’m not from LA so I can’t say much about it.

  5. Hey Liz! Thanks for coming to the site. So I see we ALSO obsess over Pinkberry! It’s really close to my new apartment in LB so Chi, you and me should get some when you’re in town.

  6. Yea we should. I hear a lot about you and her other LB friends and I’d love to meet you all.

  8. Hi to all you other Yogurt fans out there. I must confess that I am a yogurt freak myself. I know everyone out there is so in love with Pinkberry but I just DON’T understand why the hell that is.
    1. PINKBERRY basically tastes like frozen sugar water. YUCK! It seems like they don’t care about taste and all they care about is making a good ol’ buck.
I went to this new yogurt shop called Frucci located near MT SAC & CAL POLY POMONA. (Check out their website http://www.frucciyogurt.com under News for their addresses).
FRUCCI on the other hand really considers taste and ingredients (its rich and you can tell that it has so much less sugar than pinkberry). They really seem to care about people’s health and WELL-BEING.
    2. FRUCCI is also CHEAPER than pinkberry. Pinkberry even charges a dollar extra for their green tea (what a rip!!) whereas frucci charges all yogurt flavors equally. You guys need to try the Pina Colada (their most popular flavor).
    3. Frucci’s workers give GREAT SERVICE.
Some of Pinkberry’s workers are the worst (very rude and impolite). From my own personal experience i went into the koreatown Pinkberry and asked for three toppings (the blackberry, raspberry, and mochi). I asked, “can i have the mochi?” The female worker harshly and impolitely replied, “It’s ricecake.” I couldn’t really understand at first so I was wondering why she was giving me a horrible face and so I said, “Yea so can i have the mochi please.” She then again repeated, “It’s ricecake” while rolling her eyes. I was pretty DAMN offended.
My friend also said she went into a Pinkberry and one of the customers politely asked, “can i have some more yogurt please?” The worker sarcastically said, “oh yea you want some more?” She THREW the medium cup of yogurt on the measuring scale (since pinkberry measures by the ounce) and the scale measured 8 ounces. Since medium is 8 ounces, the worker just handed the cup of yogurt to the female customer without saying a word. My friend said that she could see that customer’s face turning pink. Pretty sad.
Pinkberry fans you can hate me all you want, but to all you yogurt fans out there I RECOMMEND FRUCCI.
